MONROE, Maine (AP) - A dozen Maine cheese makers will open to the public for the state’s annual Open Creamery Day.

The Maine Cheese Guild is hosting the event on Oct. 11 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Visitors will be able to check out the creameries, get to know the owners and meet the animals.

The creameries that are participating in the event are spread around southern, central and mid-coast Maine. Participants include Breakwater Vineyards in Owls Head, Silver Moon Creamery at Smiling Hill Farm in Westbrook and Appleton Creamery in Appleton.
