HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Connecticut Gov. Dannel P. Malloy will be among the dignitaries welcoming Pope Francis to the U.S. during a ceremony at the White House.

Malloy’s office confirmed Monday the Democrat has been invited by the administration to attend Wednesday’s State Arrival Ceremony, planned on the South Lawn. Francis will be the third pope to have ever visited the White House.

Malloy, who is Roman Catholic, is also scheduled to attend the pope’s Mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.

Later in the week, Malloy is scheduled to take more out-of-state trips. The incoming chairman of the Democratic Governors Association, Malloy is scheduled to be in Minneapolis on Thursday for both official and DGA business. He is expected to be in Chicago on Friday for DGA business.
