GILBERT, W.Va. (AP) - Marshall University is celebrating its new Early Education STEM Center in Gilbert.

A ceremony will be held at the center at 11 a.m. on Friday. Speakers include first lady Joanne Jaeger Tomblin, Sen. Bob Plymale, former Sen. Lloyd Jackson and West Virginia Board of Education member Gayle Manchin.

The science, technology, engineering and math center can serve up to 15 children.

Marshall says the goal is to create a model site that provides teachers with professional development and support. The center also will provide pre-service teachers with clinical placements.
