WHITEHALL, Ohio (AP) - The mayor of a central Ohio city that is home to a military supply installation is publicly urging Congress to avoid another government shutdown.

Kim Maggard, mayor if the city of Whitehall in suburban Columbus, is planning a Monday morning news conference outside the Defense Supply Center.

She says government employees of the facility were furloughed when the government was shut down in 2013, and many would likely be adversely affected if it happens again.

Congressional Republicans are threatening to shut down the government again over a political fight about funding for Planned Parenthood.

A partial shutdown will occur Oct. 1 unless lawmakers provide money to keep the federal government functioning.

President Barack Obama has urged Congress to avoid another contentious budget standoff.
