PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Public schools in the Philadelphia School District will be closed Monday after Pope Francis visits the city as well as several days before his arrival.

Schools were already scheduled to be closed Wednesday for Yom Kippur and Thursday and Friday due to preparations for the papal visit.

A school district spokesman said Monday that officials had decided to also close the schools on Monday, Sept. 28, after the pope leaves.

Pope Francis arrives in Philadelphia Sept. 26, and hundreds of thousands are expected to fill the Benjamin Franklin Parkway for his Sept. 27 Mass.
