BENTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - A 48-year-old woman trying to cross a road in southwestern Michigan has been struck and killed by a police car.

Kim Bedford of Hartford was hit Sunday night on Pipestone Road in Berrien County’s Benton Township. The township police department says an officer was driving to the scene of a domestic disturbance.

The officer has been placed on leave. The county sheriff’s office is investigating Bedford’s death.
