COLCHESTER, Vt. (AP) - Authorities say two Burlington police officers have shot and wounded a man who threatened to shoot himself and others, including police.

Colchester police responded to a mobile home early Sunday on a report of a man threatening to kill himself.

When officers arrived, they saw 20-year-old James Hemingway through a window holding a rifle.

Crisis negotiators and officers from surrounding communities responded. Authorities say negotiators called Hemingway to try to resolve the issue, but he threatened to shoot himself and others.

Officers then saw Hemingway get into his car with a rifle. He started to drive off, but then stopped and got out. Authorities say two Burlington officers fired at Hemingway. He’s hospitalized and is scheduled to appear in court next week on disorderly conduct and simple assault charges.
