WAYNESVILLE, N.C. (AP) - Authorities in Haywood County say a hiker who had been missing for the past two days has been found alive.

WLOS-TV in Asheville reports (https://bit.ly/1KrufGQ) Haywood County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Heidi Warren said 49-year-old Julie Hays was found around 7 p.m. Monday. Hays is an assistant district attorney in Washington County, Tennessee.

The sheriff’s office said rescue personnel expect it will take more than two hours to bring the woman out from where she was found. While the woman was reported to be injured, the sheriff’s office didn’t elaborate on the extent of the injuries.

The station reported that Hays left from Jonesborough, Tennessee on Saturday and was reported missing that night in the Shining Rock Wilderness area.

Searchers encountered fog and light rain as they searched on Monday.
