DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) - The owner of two Dubuque gasoline stations is using solar panels to power his businesses.

The Telegraph Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1NI429s ) dozens of panels are helping power the gas stations and convenience stores owned by Waseem Serwar.

The owner of a solar power installation company in Dubuque says the panels are among the first installed at gas stations in Iowa.

Although it seems odd to use an alternative energy to power a gasoline station, Serwar says he was motivated by the cost savings of using solar power and a chance to help the environment.

Serwar says the panels will offset 10 percent of the electrical use at one operation and 5 percent at the other. Overall savings should total more than $3,000 a year.
