TOLONO, Ill. (AP) - An antique fire truck once used in Tolono (tuh-LOH’-noh) is back on display after 13 years hidden in obscurity and uncertainty.

Denny Davis is a 40-year Tolono volunteer firefighter who bought the red classic and placed it on property he owns in the town 150 miles south of Chicago.

The (Champaign) News-Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/1NOX7gf ) the truck was playground equipment in Champaign’s Hessel Park for nearly four decades. Liability concerns forced its removal in 2002.

Tolono firefighters took it, but insurance worries scrapped their display plan. It sat in storage, was almost sold for scrap, and finally auctioned to high-bidder Davis.

Davis was pleased it served as seating for viewing fireworks during a summer town festival. He intends improvements to make it a photo stop.
