HOLLISTER, N.C. (AP) - Authorities in Halifax County say a woman and an 8-year-old boy were shot in an apparent case of domestic violence in which a man turned the gun on himself and was killed.

Sheriff Wes Tripp said a 34-year-old woman was airlifted to a trauma unit where she was listed in stable condition. Tripp also said an 8-year-old boy was shot in the hand and was in stable condition at a local hospital.

The sheriff said two other children were inside the home at the time of Tuesday’s shooting in Hollister, but they escaped. Those children are now staying with relatives. The identities of the woman and children haven’t been released.

According to Tripp, when deputies responded to a call, they found Jimmy Harrison Jr. dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
