BROWNSVILLE, Texas (AP) - A father and son from Mexico have been sentenced to prison in the U.S. for running a South Texas marijuana farm with about 9,000 plants.

Miguel Echevarria Zuniga and his son, Miguel Echevarria Guizar, in April pleaded guilty to manufacturing marijuana. The 51-year-old father was sentenced Tuesday to 3½ years in federal prison. His 22-year-old son received a three-year prison term.

Prosecutors in Brownsville say the case involves the August 2014 discovery of a sprawling marijuana field in rural Willacy County.

The father and son face deportation to Mexico after serving their U.S. prison terms.
