HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) - The Hattiesburg City Council approved a tax levy Sept. 8 that would cover a proposed $138 million-plus budget for fiscal year 2015-16.

But based on discussions during Monday’s agenda-setting work session, a difference of opinion exists between the administration and members of the council over what should be in it.

The Hattiesburg American reports (https://hatne.ws/1iufgm4) Councilman Carter Carroll suggested that a budget committee get together again and go back through the document.

Among the issues was an ending cash balance for the proposed 2015-16 budget of about $1.6 million.

The council is expected to vote Tuesday on the budget.

Carroll said if that vote is tabled, he expects to have a budget in hand and approved well before the end of the month.
