BAY CITY, Mich. (AP) - A 22-year-old man who admitted to leaving a woman’s body in a house after a night of drinking and not notifying authorities has been sentenced.

The Bay City Times reports (https://bit.ly/1V7MCDD ) Austin Carruthers was ordered last week to spend 60 days in jail, with credit for 55 days served. He also was ordered to pay $125 in fines. Carruthers earlier pleaded guilty to one count of failing to report the discovery of a dead body.

Carruthers’ girlfriend called police March 4 after discovering 25-year-old Heather Jo Campau had died of alcohol poisoning at a home in Bay County’s Fraser Township. Carruthers and Campau’s boyfriend told police that they left the home earlier that morning after finding the body.

The boyfriend also was charged with failing to report a dead body.
