DANVILLE, Va. (AP) - Crews are cleaning up a motor oil spill in the Dan River at Danville.

Danville Fire Department battalion chief F. D. Fowler says a valve malfunction released 400 gallons of motor oil at an automobile dealership on Monday.

Fowler says in a news release that employees of the dealership contained most of the spill. Some of the oil flowed outside, entered a storm drain and went into the river.

The fire department’s hazardous material team contained most of the oil in the river with booms. A contractor will clean up the spill.

Fowler says towns below the spill have been notified so they can take precautions.
