WESTERLY, R.I. (AP) - Authorities say a man has been killed when two recreational boats collided in the waters off Napatree Point in Westerly.

The Coast Guard said a 60-foot Viking yacht and a 25-foot Parker outboard boat crashed just after 10 a.m. Tuesday and the smaller vessel capsized, fatally injuring the man aboard.

Watch Hill Fire Chief Robert Peacock tells the Westerly Sun the man was in the water when emergency units from several agencies arrived. He said other boaters in the area called 911 and helped locate the victim, but rough seas still made the rescue difficult.

Peacock said the other boater was not injured.

Westerly police and the state Department of Environmental Management are investigating.
