DAYTON, Ohio (AP) - A southwest Ohio man has pleaded guilty to raping a child and then trying to hire a hit man to kill the victim and the victim’s father.

The Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office says that 41-year-old John. P. Friend III of Dayton faces up to life in prison without parole when he’s sentenced Oct. 6. He pleaded guilty on Monday to two counts each of conspiracy to commit murder, rape of a child under age 10, and gross sexual imposition. His attorney declined to comment until after sentencing.

Friend was indicted in October 2014 on the sexual abuse charges. Prosecutors say while he was in custody he tried to hire a hit man to kill the child and the child’s father. He was indicted on the murder conspiracy counts last March.
