PHOENIX (AP) - A man is hospitalized in extremely critical condition after allegedly trying to break into a Phoenix house and being shot by the homeowner.

Phoenix police didn’t immediately identify the suspect but say he’s between 17 and 20 years old.

They say the unidentified homeowner in his 60s shot an intruder in Phoenix on Tuesday morning after warnings to leave the property didn’t scare him away.

Police say the homeowner called about 10:30 a.m. to report an attempted burglary and that the suspect had been shot.

The man told police that he heard glass break and saw someone in the backyard trying to get into his house through a window.

The homeowner says he warned the intruder he had a gun and told him to leave the property twice before shooting.
