HAMMOND, La. (AP) - Hammond officials have long considered expanding University Avenue to link the Northshore Regional Airport directly to Interstate 55.

That idea is getting closer to reality with the start of a feasibility study by the Regional Planning Commission.

Mayor Pete Panepinto tells The Daily Star (https://bit.ly/1MnYEql) the expansion was a dream of former Hammond mayor Tom Anderson in the late 1970s.

Panepinto says the study could take about two years, then go into the wetlands and engineering phase.

He says just building the road would cost millions, not including acquiring the land and other costs.
