HONESDALE, Pa. (AP) - A northeastern Pennsylvania man has been convicted of first-degree murder in the shooting death of his niece which authorities said followed an argument over $20 worth of heroin.

Fifty-one-year-old Louis Ogden of Lake Ariel was sentenced immediately in Wayne County to life in prison without possibility of parole in the June 2014 death of 20-year-old Rebecca Pisell.

Another relative told investigators that the victim came to the defendant’s south Canaan Township home and demanded the return of money she had paid for drugs.

The witness said Ogden told her he only meant to scare his niece by pointing the .38 caliber revolver at her but it “just went off.”

District Attorney Janine Edwards said jurors deliberated only 11 minutes before convicting Ogden.
