SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Utah Gov. Gary Herbert will speak at a conservative conference in Salt Lake City this fall that has drawn opposition from LGBT groups.

Officials with the World Congress of Families said Tuesday in a news release that Herbert, a Republican, will give a welcoming speech on Oct. 27.

First lady Jeanette Herbert will participate in a panel at the conference the next day.

Utah’s Republican Attorney General Sean Reyes is also slated to speak during the conference.

World Congress of Families says Herbert and Reyes have been supportive and protective of children and families.

The event is the organization’s first worldwide conference in the U.S.

Gay rights groups accuse the congress of promoting anti-LGBT rhetoric and legislation.
