EPHRATA, Pa. (AP) - An animal rights activist was arrested after jumping a fence and disrupting the pig chase event at a central Pennsylvania fair.

Police said 29-year-old Kelly Lehman of Lancaster was at the Ephrata Fair on Tuesday night to protest the event and was cautioned not to interfere.

Police said that prior to the end of the event at about 8:45 p.m. Tuesday, she jumped a fence and entered the pig chase area. She was arrested and was to be cited for disorderly conduct.

LNP newspapers reports that she had urged people on Facebook to protest the event, calling pigs “intelligent, thinking, feeling animals with unique and beautiful personalities.”

Fair secretary Stephanie Smith called the event “a family fun night’ that has drawn protests in the past, but not for several years.
