NEW YORK (AP) - Prosecutors say a Long Island man has been indicted on manslaughter and other charges in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred last month in Suffolk County.

Kendell Owens pleaded not guilty Tuesday to a 12-count indictment that includes vehicular manslaughter, leaving the scene of a fatal accident and driving while impaired by drugs. He was ordered held on $1 million bail.

Authorities say the 32-year-old was driving on Montauk Highway on Aug. 11 when he collided with another car. The driver of that vehicle, 45-year-old Richard Garcia, died at a local hospital.

Owens was arrested blocks from the crash. Prosecutors said he later admitted to smoking marijuana before the crash.

His attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment Wednesday evening.
