NEW YORK (AP) - The Long Island Rail Road says riders should expect delays and cancellations during this evening’s commute following a train derailment at a rail yard in Manhattan.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority says a train heading to Penn Station derailed in the West Side Storage Yard shortly before 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Two of the cars from that train derailed, which blocked some access to Penn Station.

The agency says trains are still leaving the yard, which borders the Hudson River on Manhattan’s West Side. But officials warn that commuters should be aware that there are fewer trains than normal.

Some trains are being combined, while others are being cancelled and delayed.

The railroad could not immediately say how many trains or customers would be affected.
