TORRANCE, Calif. (AP) - A man has been ordered to stand trial in the abduction and sexual assault of a 2-year-old girl taken from a Southern California carwash.

Thirty-six-year-old Michael Ikeler of Torrance pleaded not guilty Wednesday, after a judge earlier this month ordered him to stand trial. He’s being held on $1 million bail and is scheduled to appear in court again Oct. 1.

Prosecutors say Ikeler took the girl from a self-serve carwash in Gardena in April.

In a frantic 911 call, the girl’s mother reports hearing her daughter shout before vanishing.

Dozens of people searched for the girl, who was found 2 ½ hours later and miles away in an empty parking lot.

Ikeler was arrested a week later. Police say they used DNA evidence to connect him to the crime.
