DOVER, N.J. (AP) - A northern New Jersey man faces up to 20 years in prison after admitting he used a fake gun to rob two women of their weddings rings and unsuccessfully tried to rob a third.

Thirty-one-year-old Christian Rivera pleaded guilty Tuesday to charges related to the thefts.

Prosecutors say the Dover resident robbed his first victim of her wedding ring on April 18, 2012 in Rockaway Township and then held up another woman a week later in Roxbury.

The Daily Record reports the failed robbery occurred on April 24 in Wharton. The would-be victim was able to fight off Rivera’s attack with a shopping cart until he fled.

Rivera was apprehended on April 25 in Denville while fleeing the scene of another robbery.

Sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 16.
