CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers are stepping up their patrols in one neighborhood after two instances in which suspects tried to lure children into vehicles.

A police statement said officers received a call indicating that a 16-year-old girl reported that a man attempted to lure her into his car, then tried to grab her when she refused. The teenager got away and the suspect fled.

Prior to Tuesday’s incident, police say a 10-year-old boy was walking home from a school bus stop last Thursday when an SUV with a man and woman inside stopped next to him and asked if he wanted candy. The two suspects told the boy they were there to pick him up, but the boy ran away and the suspects drove away.
