MANASSAS, Va. (AP) - Prince William County Police say officers have shot a man in Manassas.

Police said in a news release that the incident occurred about 2:10 p.m. Wednesday on Lake Drive. Officers say a homeowner reported a man was hiding in a bush on her property.

Authorities say officers saw the man walking along a creek. They say he brandished a crowbar and raised it toward officers. Police say the officers ordered the man to drop the crowbar, and used pepper spray, but the man went into the creek.

Investigators say the officers followed the man, who turned toward them while raising the crowbar.

Authorities say the officers shot at the man, striking him in the upper body.

Police say the man was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive.
