TRUSSVILLE, Ala. (AP) - Authorities say an Alabama state trooper was hospitalized after an early-morning vehicle crash on Interstate 59.

WBRC-TV reports that the wreck happened around 2 a.m. Wednesday, in a construction area along the interstate in the Trussville area.

Trooper Chuck Daniel tells Al.com that the injured trooper’s vehicle was idling in the median of I-59 when the driver of another vehicle ran off the road and struck the rear of the trooper’s car.

Daniel said the trooper was able to call in the accident himself. He said the trooper, whose name wasn’t released, was taken to UAB Hospital with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
