IRVINE, Calif. (AP) - University of California Irvine has set a world record for the largest game of capture the flag.

The Orange County Register reports (https://bit.ly/1Kzcu5x ) that 2,888 students gathered at the campus’ field Tuesday to play the game. A Guinness World Records’ official was on site to confirm the ruling. He said this is a new record for the book, as previous groups have not followed the correct guidelines for the game.

This is the sixth year in a row the university has set a world record. School officials organize such massive events as part of Welcome Week.

In 2010 the school had the largest dodgeball game - a record the school would break twice in later years. They also hold the record for largest pillow fight and water fight.
