CRANSTON, R.I. (AP) - Environmental officials say they have found West Nile Virus in a sample of mosquitoes in Cranston.

The Department of Environmental Management says on Wednesday it’s the third sample they’ve found this year that tested positive for West Nile. The sample was collected on Sept. 14.

There have been no human cases of the mosquito-borne illness reported in Rhode Island this year.

The DEM is urging people to remember to take precautions by wearing long pants, long sleeves and socks when out in the evening, and to wear bug spray.

The risk of catching a mosquito-borne illness typically lasts until the first frost.
