EAST HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Fire officials say two Connecticut people have been hospitalized after a duplex caught fire.

Fire Chief John Oates says crews were called to the East Hartford duplex around 10 p.m. Wednesday and found flames had engulfed one of the units.

Oates says a man and an elderly woman from different units were pulled from the burning building and rushed to Saint Francis Hospital. Their conditions are unknown.

The fire was under control by 11 p.m. Crews are trying to extinguish hot spots. Both sides of the duplex sustained heavy damage.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
