GALLUP, N.M. (AP) - Na’nizhoozhi Center Inc. is again taking on operational responsibilities at a Gallup detox facility.

The Gallup Independent reports (https://bit.ly/1jl8YBA) city officials unanimously approved a temporary agreement putting NCI in charge of operations for five months starting at noon on Oct. 2.

NCI will receive monthly funding of $404,850 to cover operating costs. An extension would require a full request for proposal process.

The Navajo Nation funded NCI to operate the Gallup Detox Center until mid-2013. The tribe’s Department of Behavioral Health took over in 2014.

President Russell Begaye and Vice President Jonathan Nez said in a letter earlier this month that the Navajo Nation would end its role at the facility by Oct. 3.

A liquor excise tax provides the city and county with funds for alcohol-related programs.
