BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A 24-year-old Baton Rouge man has been indicted on a second-degree murder charge in the June 21 killing of a woman at a birthday party.

The Advocate reports (https://bit.ly/1MrHKar) Elton Gaines III is accused of fatally shooting 21-year-old Donlisha Patterson while she was at a teenager’s crowded party.

Gaines faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison if convicted as charged.

The case has been assigned to state District Judge Beau Higginbotham.
