HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Hartford police have made an arrest in connection with the city’s 23rd homicide of the year - the shooting of a man found near the federal courthouse and City Hall.

Twenty-seven-year-old Anthony Christiana of Hartford was charged Thursday with murder, conspiracy and gun crimes in the Aug. 31 killing of 32-year-old William Prieto at his apartment building on South Prospect Street. Police say the motive was drugs and money.

Christiana is detained on $1 million bail. His lawyer didn’t immediately return a phone message Thursday.

Police say Prieto died of multiple gunshots to his upper torso.

Christiana has several drug-related convictions and several pending drug cases.

Hartford has 26 homicides this year - the highest total in all of New England including Boston.
