RIVERHEAD, N.Y. (AP) - A Long Island man has admitted to being behind the wheel of a speeding car that flipped and killed his friend last November.

Newsday reports (https://nwsdy.li/1Jrji4o ) 20-year-old Brandon Charles pleaded guilty Wednesday to second-degree manslaughter in the Nov. 1, 2014 death of 19-year-old Carla Flores.

In exchange for the plea, Charles will be sentenced to 3-to-9 years in prison on Nov. 5.

It was unclear who was driving the vehicle until the Suffolk County Crime Lab was able to match a blood stain on the driver’s side of the car to the Wheatley Heights resident.

A test of Charles’ blood-alcohol level wasn’t administered at the crash scene because responding officers were unsure who was driving.

Charles’ attorney said his client is “broken up” about losing his friend.
