PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - The South Dakota Attorney General’s office says a Lyman County grand jury has indicted one woman on a murder charge and another on an accessory charge in the beating death of a man earlier this month.

Attorney General Marty Jackley says 27-year-old Whitney Renae Turney of Oacoma faces one count of second degree murder, and 27-year-old Dayna Wells of Oacoma faces one count of accessory to a crime.

Prosecutors allege that Turney killed Calvin J. Shields on Sept. 4, and Wells helped her in an attempt to conceal, destroy or alter evidence. Attorney information wasn’t immediately available.

The case was investigated by the Chamberlain Police Department, the Brule and Lyman county sheriff’s offices, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, the South Dakota Highway Patrol and the state Division of Criminal Investigation.
