PALMDALE, Calif. (AP) - Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies have arrested a 33-year-old man suspected of sexually assaulting two female joggers in Palmdale.

Deputy Ryan Rouzan says the latest victim, a 24-year-old woman, was assaulted last week as she ran along the California Aqueduct. Rouzan says the suspect jumped out from behind some bushes, threw the woman to the ground, forcibly held her down and sexually assaulted her.

Detectives identified Heriberto Romero of Palmdale as the suspect, and arrested him Tuesday on suspicion of assault with intent to commit rape. He is held on $1 million bail. It’s not immediately known if he has a lawyer.

City News Service says Romero is also accused in a similar assault on a 20-year-old woman last January at Pelona Vista Park. Investigators are looking for other potential victims.
