CHICAGO (AP) - A man was killed when a building partially collapsed on the city’s South Side

Fire Department spokesman Juan Hernandez says the man was pronounced dead at a hospital after a wall of the one-story building fell Thursday.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified the victim as 46-year-old Daniel Miller of suburban Chicago Ridge

Fire officials say when firefighters arrived on the scene they learned a man was trapped concrete and brick. They say it took crews about an hour to shore up what was left of the building to remove the man’s body from the rubble.

In a statement, the Chicago Department of Buildings said it has learned workers were removing roofing material from the building without proper permits.

The cause of the collapse was under investigation.
