ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Gov. Andrew Cuomo says more than 195,000 New York residents have registered to vote through the state Department of Motor Vehicles’ online system.

The governor says more of a quarter of those registrations, 53,000, are new.

New York’s online system through the DMV web site was launched in 2012 to expand access to voter registration. Voters register through the agency’s automated online system, called MyDMV.

There are more than 11 million registered voters in New York state.

The deadline for voting in the November general election is Oct. 9.
