NEW YORK (AP) - The Metropolitan Transportation Authority will run extra trains into New York City for Pope Francis’ visit while bus service near papal events will experience delays and detours.

The MTA says street closings in Manhattan will force numerous bus lines to be rerouted between 3 p.m. Thursday and 10 a.m. Saturday.

The subways will run normally but some entrances and stairways at Penn Station will be closed because of Friday’s papal Mass at Madison Square Garden.

The Long Island Rail Road will operate eight extra westbound trains on Friday.

Extra trains will be on standby at Penn Station to carry customers back to Long Island after the Mass.

Metro-North will operate three extra trains into Manhattan on Friday. Three Manhattan-bound trains early Saturday morning will be canceled.
