RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - The proposed primary election calendar based on final legislative approval Thursday of a measure that moves all 2016 primaries in North Carolina to March 15:

- Dec. 1, 2015: candidate filing period begins.

- Dec. 16: deadline for political parties to submit presidential candidate list for primary ballot.

- Dec. 21: candidate filing period ends.

- Jan 5, 2016: State Board of Elections meets to finalize presidential candidates for ballot.

- Jan. 25: absentee ballots ready.

- Feb. 19: deadline to register to vote in primary.

- March 3: early voting begins.

- March 12: early voting ends.

- March 15: primary date.

- May 3: second primary (runoff) held, if necessary, if no federal races are involved.

- May 24: second primary held, if necessary, if federal race is involved.
