LAKE PLACID, N.Y. (AP) - A 23-year-old man faces endangerment and illegal firearms charges after a 2-year-old boy accidentally shot his mother in the buttocks with a pistol.

Lake Placid police tell the Adirondack Daily Enterprise (https://bit.ly/1G5dRrK ) that Jonathan and Erin Coffey’s son found a loaded .40-caliber pistol in the family’s apartment and shot Erin Coffey Tuesday evening. She was treated at a hospital and released.

Police say neither the boy nor the couple’s 11-month-old daughter was harmed.

Investigators found another loaded handgun in the residence after the shooting.

Coffey was charged with possession of a firearm without a permit, reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child. He was released, to appear in court at a later date.
