EVERETT, Wash. (AP) - Washington State University is now one step closer to its Everett campus after university and Snohomish County officials held a ceremonial ground breaking for new branch.

The Everett Daily Herald reports (https://goo.gl/T8nSOe ) that interim WSU President Dan Bernardo led a ceremonial ground breaking for the Everett University Center on Tuesday.

The four-story, 95,000-square-foot building is expected to have at least a dozen classrooms, 10 laboratories, offices, a cafe and an area for public gatherings. The $54.6 million project is expected to be complete by the start of the 2017 school year.

The building will house WSU North Puget Sound at Everett and the Everett University Center. Both programs currently operate on Everett Community College’s campus.
