NEW ORLEANS (AP) - An Orleans Parish jury has found two men guilty of second-degree murder in the March 2013 shooting death of a Xavier University of Louisiana pre-med student.

Multiple media outlets report that 22-year-old defendants Glynn Hawkins and Alex Lewis were convicted Wednesday and will face mandatory life sentences in the slaying of 19-year-old Bertrand Dezara III. Hawkins was convicted by an 11-1 vote, while Lewis was convicted by a 10-2 vote.

Prosecutors said the two men took Dezara from an eastern New Orleans apartment and then shot him in the courtyard of the complex.

A third defendant, Jerrel Bryer, also has been indicted for second-degree murder in the case, but he has been granted a separate trial at a later date.

Hawkins and Lewis are scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 22.
