TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - An operation mounted in the Tucson area by the Pima County Sheriff’s Department to promote school bus safety has resulted in more than 200 traffic citations.

The Sheriff’s Department says “Operation School Bus” began in late July and ran through mid-September.

The department says the operation resulted in citations for a variety of offenses. Those included exceeding the 15 mph school zone speed limit, passing in a school zone, parking illegally and not stopping when a school bus activates its “stop” arm.

The operation involved having deputies ride in school buses and having marked and unmarked sheriff’s vehicles positioned along bus routes in the Vail, Amphitheater and Flowing Wells school districts.
