LOS ANGELES (AP) - Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck says someone seen running from a burning apartment in the Westwood area is considered a person of interest in the death of a UCLA student found inside.

Coroner’s officials tell The Los Angeles Times (https://lat.ms/1Ox54Xp ) that the death is being investigated as an apparent homicide.

An autopsy is expected to determine whether the young woman died from the Monday fire or before it started.

The Pi Beta Phi sorority tells the Times the woman was one of its members, 21-year-old Andrea “Andy” DelVesco.

The Times reports that DelVesco was charged in July with multiple felony counts of possessing drugs including ecstasy, LSD, methamphetamine and an active chemical in hallucinogenic mushrooms.

Arson investigators are investigating what caused the fire. The apartment had working smoke alarms.
