PORT CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) - Port Canaveral has started a nationwide hunt for a new CEO after its current top executive agreed to resign under pressure.

Port Canaveral CEO John Walsh said Wednesday that he would resign in January after two Port Authority commissioners indicated they were prepared to fire him.

Walsh had been criticized recently for making disparaging remarks about opponents.

Earlier this month, he apologized for calling the opponents of constructing new train tracks from the port “Luddites.”

Walsh became CEO in 2013 after working as a deputy executive director for two years.
