LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) - The University of Wyoming Board of Trustees has approved an application for a grant to help fund an initiative to improve the university’s teacher education program.

The application will be submitted to the Daniels Fund, a major nonprofit organization founded by cable TV pioneer Bill Daniels.

The board’s action Thursday came after a few trustees voiced concern that the application potentially left the Daniels Fund with too much influence over implementing UW’s initiative.

However, the board amended some language to clarify that the trustees aren’t giving up their authority over the College of Education initiative.

The initiative seeks to elevate the UW College of Education to national pre-eminent status in teacher preparation and ultimately improve a K-12 education in Wyoming overall.
