BRIGHTON, Colo. (AP) - A woman convicted of killing her husband by running him over during a fight has been sentenced to six years in prison.

Nancy Jo Arias was convicted in June of manslaughter and vehicular homicide in the death of Phillip Anthony Lobato last summer. The Denver Post (https://dpo.st/1iyVO7P ) reports she was sentenced Thursday during an emotional hearing in Brighton in which the defense argued she was acting in self defense.

Arias has said her husband continued to hit her through an open window after she told him to get out of the car. Police say she was kneeling next to her husband when they arrived and confessed.

Judge Katherine Rose Delgado said she didn’t condone the violence Arias endured but said she couldn’t condone her actions either.
